Sennheiser has unveiled the HD 550, a new pair of over-ear headphones that the company claims deliver impressive performance with a well-balanced and smooth audio experience. Featuring expansive stereo imaging and a lightweight construction, the HD 550 encourages extended listening sessions for both music and gaming enthusiasts. Additionally, the headphones are designed with a modular approach, allowing for easy replacement of ear pads and cables.
Sennheiser HD550: new 38-millimeter driver
At the heart of the HD 550 is the specially developed 38-millimeter driver, manufactured at Sennheiser’s audio factory in Tullamore, Ireland. The new driver delivers exceptionally clear sound from 6 Hz to 39.5 kHz, with minimal distortion of less than 0.2 percent. Thanks to its 150 Ohm impedance, the HD 550 is compatible with various hi-fi systems and can be effortlessly combined with premium equipment such as Sennheiser’s HDV 820.
The HD 550’s open-back earcups feature an innovative acoustic mesh that protects the drivers and delivers unobstructed, pure sound. The angled placement of the drivers creates a wide, spacious soundstage, putting the listener right in the middle of the recording. According to the makers, the HD 550 delivers deep bass, clear details and balanced mid-tones, without compromising natural vocal reproduction.
Sennheiser HD550: Built for comfort
The HD 550 features a construction that, according to the manufacturer, offers a more relaxed clamping force compared to other models in the 500 series. At 237 grams, the HD550 weighs less than the most popular gaming headsets. In addition, the headband with soft touch texture and ventilated metal mesh ear cups provide the listener with all the comfort and durability.
Like other models in the 500 series, the HD 550 has a modular design, allowing for easy swapping of cables and ear pads. It comes with a 1.8-meter cable that ends in a stereo 3.5 mm jack plug with a separate adapter to 6.35 mm jack plug. This makes it compatible with a variety of devices. A range of optional cables allows the listener to easily adapt to different connections.
Sennheiser HD 550: price and delivery information
The HD 550 can already be ordered and will be delivered in April. The recommended retail price is just under 300 euros.
