Creek 4040 CD: Efficient and reliable CD player

The Creek 4040 CD’s miniature enclosure with extruded aluminum front panel is matched to the Creek 4040 A integrated amplifier. Technical advances and circuit miniaturization over the last 40 years no longer require heavy enclosures and power supplies to accurately extract digital music from a compact disc. The Creek 4040 CD’s intuitive user interface and sophisticated menu system are easily controlled via the remote control or discreet front panel buttons. The Creek 4040 CD offers three types of digital outputs for the discerning audiophile, including transformer-isolated SPDIF (via coaxial RCA), professional balanced AES-EBU (via XLR), and TOSLINK optical.

The Creek 4040 CD has a built-in DAC for convenient stand-alone analog audio output via a pair of RCA jacks. However, for the highest quality audio playback, it is recommended to connect the 4040 A via the coaxial or optical SPDIF digital output to utilize the ESS Sabre32 Reference amplifier’s excellent ES9018K2M DAC.

The key to the impressive performance and compact size of the Creek 4040 CD player is its efficient and reliable DC power supply. The multi-region power adapter provides a stable 12V DC to power the Creek 4040 CD’s internal voltage regulators, which feed every part of the circuitry. Audio signal detection allows the Creek 4040 CD to reduce power consumption by shutting down non-essential circuits when not needed, down to less than 0.5W. A timeout is adjustable in the menu.
