Acoustic Energy has announced the AE Sub, an active subwoofer designed to complement the 100 and 300 Series speakers at the lower end of the frequency range, and to integrate seamlessly and invisibly into the audio system. The enclosure is closed and the driver is downward-firing, making placement relatively easy.
Acoustic Energy AE Sub
Using a 250 Watt (RMS) Class D amplifier coupled to a 12-inch long-throw driver with its doped and reinforced pulp-fiber cone, the AE Sub from UK-based manufacturer Acoustic Energy reaches a lowest frequency of 26 Hz at level -6 dB. The compact cabinet houses the amplifier and driver in an optimally tuned enclosure for fast, deep and melodic bass.
For ultimate installation flexibility, the AE Sub features stereo line-level RCA inputs, an LFE input and high-level speaker inputs. The crossover frequency is adjustable between 40Hz and 120Hz. Of course, there’s also phase control and volume control so the AE Sub can work with any pair of speakers. And it automatically switches on when a music signal is detected on one of the inputs.
The AE Sub is relatively compact and easy to place. Spikes are included, as well as rubber caps for use on hard floors. The buyer can choose between a black and white version. The price has yet to be announced.
