iBasso D16 is a DAC using the developed iBasso FPGA-Master 2.0 as the core and 16 sets of cascaded 8E PWM DACs, for a total of 128 PWM DACs (discrete) for a 1-bit DAC. The measured THD+N ratio is 0.0001%, which is the best among modern portable discrete DACs. The amplifier section is a super Class A transistor amplifier, similar to the DX320MAX amplifier.
FPGA-MASTER 2.0
FPGA-Master 2.0 from D16 integrates iBasso's algorithmic advances over the past three years and is the reason we were able to achieve the breakthrough in iBasso portable discrete DACs. The FPGA plays the role of signal reorganization and transcoding, which generates PWM signals that can be decoded by a subsequent PWM DAC. Under the precise control of FPGA-Master 2.0, 128 independent PWM DACs operate in FIR mode and are combined to form outputs L+, L-, R+, R-. Each bit of DAC data is carefully delayed and equalized using strict compensation.
HARDWARE ANALOG FIR FILTER
Thanks to precise control at the picosecond level in FPGA-Master 2.0, 128 independent PWM DACs operate in FIR mode and are combined into outputs L+, L-, R+, R-. Each channel has 32 PWM DACs operating in “parallel delay” mode. This configuration allows 32 DACs to work together as a hardware analog FIR filter. By averaging the differences between multiple DACs, distortion is minimized, resulting in increased detail and density of sound.
SUPER CLASS A DISCRETE AMPLIFIER
The D16 uses a similar architecture to the DX320MAX – a super Class A discrete amplifier circuit. It features 20pcs of dual low VCEsat (BISS) transistors and boasts an impressive output current of up to 2A, resulting in a high power output of 1125mW+1125mW @32Ω.
